I always paint an abstract during any period of working on a landscape. Both give me pleasure for different reasons. Painting an abstract is more exciting than painting a landscape, and more problematic. One must give up control and then seize it back to an extent. … create a problem and resolve it, but resolving it creates a new problem…. and so forth.
